Class Presentation Guide: FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How long are class presentations?

Class presentation lengths can vary depending on your needs. We generally recommend that sessions are at least 30 minutes and no longer than 90 minutes.

Are class presentations done online or in person?

Currently, we are only offering class presentations online via Zoom. In the future, we may offer in-person class presentations as well.

How do I schedule a class presentation?

To schedule a class presentation with a librarian, please fill out this Library Instruction Request formIf you have any questions about class presentations, you can reach out to Reference & Instruction Librarian, Julia Stone, at jastone@egcc.edu.

How far in advance should I schedule my class presentation?

We suggest requesting a class presentation at least one week in advance as this will give the librarian time to create presentation materials and plan the session.

How do I know if a class presentation would work well for my class?

Generally, class presentations work well in classes that have a research project or some kind of research element in them. However, the library can assist classes with other instructional topics as well. If you are unsure what type of topic would work best for your course, please reach out to Reference & Instruction Librarian, Julia Stone, at jastone@egcc.edu, and she can work with you to plan a session that coincides with your curriculum and learning outcomes.

Do I need to attend the instruction session?

We highly encourage faculty members to attend the instruction session so they can act as the subject expert and also answer any questions students may have about the research assignment or the course.

None of the topics in this guide fit my needs. Are there more topics available?

This guide is only a starting point for possible instructional session topics. EGCC Librarians are happy to work directly with faculty members to customize an instruction session on a topic that better suits their needs. Please reach out to Reference & Instruction Librarian, Julia Stone, at jastone@egcc.edu and she will work with you to tailor an instruction session based on a custom topic.
