Acceptable Use of Library Facilities

Guidelines for the acceptable behavior and use of the Library and Information Commons facilities.

The Library and Information Commons seeks to maintain spaces that are conducive to research and study and that are responsive to the learning needs of our users: Eastern Gateway students, faculty, and staff as well as those of our community patrons. 

All users are expected to adhere to the EGCC Code of Conduct found in the College Catalog and to adhere to the Library guidelines listed below.  

Users of the Library and Information Commons are expected to: 
  • Maintain a safe and respectful atmosphere that is conducive to studying and learning. 
  • Not misuse library materials or cause damage to library furnishings and fixtures. 
  • Not to make or receive phone calls or use cell phones or other technology in a manner that disturbs others. Please step out of the Library and Info Commons to make or receive phone calls.  
  • Use headphones when listening to audio so as not to disturb others.  
  • Be considerate of others when talking and maintain a reasonable volume of speaking.  
Users may: 
  • Use tables and seating areas for group studying, reviews and socializing so long as it does not interfere with the use of the Library and Information Commons by others.  
  • Bring snacks and drinks into the Library and Information Commons, provided the following guidelines are taken into consideration: 
  • Drinks should be covered. 
  • Food and drinks should not be consumed near library computers, printers or other technology. 
  • Waste is to be thrown out in the proper receptacles.  

Library and Information Commons staff reserve the right to address any circumstances seen as disruptive.
